Rainbow Hike 7/18/10

Posted by PatrickC

On the weekend from Friday, July 16- Sunday, July 18, The Venture Crew went on an 18 mile, 2 night backpacking trip. The Hike started at trailhead 29 in the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness.

Johnson Lake

We stopped for the night after hiking about one ¾ miles in. The spot that we stopped at was a clearing that had many trees that we had to move from the area before we could camp there. In the morning, we woke up and got right to breakfast and getting ready to hike. We began hiking then turned onto trail 111 three miles from the trailhead. Five miles from the trailhead, we stopped for lunch at Johnson Lake. We then hiked up to rainbow pass where we stopped for pictures before the final descent to Rainbow Lake.

Rainbow Pass – Continental Divide

After hiking down to Rainbow, we set up camp, fished, and then ate dinner, desert, and jiffy pop (which was not a real success). The fishing was good and we caught several fish, some of them were pretty good sized. After spending the night at Rainbow Lake, we began our trip out. The first mile of uphill to Rainbow Pass was difficult, but after that, it was downhill for three miles to Johnson where we had lunch again. After lunch, we hiked the remaining five miles of downhill to the car.
